Boston's Love Affair With St. Louis Roofing Royalty Absolutely Warms My Heart
Everybody knows my boss is a diehard Bruins aficionado. Its rare to find a morning when he doesn’t come in the office grumbling about Danton Heinen’s shooting percentage or the chances of Forsbacka-Karlsson being ready for a full time role. When the Bruins called up one of their first round picks from the 2016 Draft, as well as proud St. Louis native Trent Frederic, I was ecstatic to see his eventual take on the former DeSmet Spartan. As a midwestern city without an NFL team, its rare that we can get ahold of Dave Portnoy’s attention, so the stakes were raised when Frederic stepped on the ice Tuesday night. T-Freddy, as he’s known around town, absolutely obliterated Brandon Tanev’s orbital bones and the rest was history.
This is what I’m talking about! Old time hockey. I’ve been waiting for this kid to get the call up to Boston for weeks and he did not disappoint. I mean the only thing I love more than Trent Fredric is Trent Fredric’s parents going nuts watching their son obliterate this guy like he just scored the game winning goal in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup. Yeah I know he’s a Wisconsin kid, but he is going to fit in just fine here and so are his parents.
The way Dave described Frederic was basically him cosigning the entire city of St. Louis, and I gotta tell you, it feels good. Boston goes as El Pres says it goes and this is as clear a shoutout as it gets. He even spread some love to the Wisconsin Badgers because of their role as a recent pipeline of high-end St. Louis hockey talent such as Luke Kunin and Aidan Cavallini. Seeing Boston’s love affair with St. Louis blossom in front of my eyes warms my heart. After the World Series showdowns, Super Bowl faceoffs, and the Patriots almost moving to St. Louis in 1994, you’d think there might be hard feelings, but it looks like things are finally coming around. In a world where there is just too much hate, this is one of those moments that brings us all together. A boisterous seaport brimming with championships glowing over a young man from a little town on the banks of the Mississippi, a place chock-full of salt of the Earth people. You never know, if Frederic keeps lighting the lamp and keeps Dave Portnoy and the rest of the diehard Bruins fans happy, maybe we’ll even see an Imos review someday.
Soon they’ll be singing “For a hole in your roof or a whole new roof” from Quincy to Saugus.
P.S. As I said almost 2 years ago to the day, Trent Frederic is going to be a high quality player for the Bruins for years to come. Can’t wait to see more from St. Louis’s roofing royalty.
